Exercise Physiology

What is Exercise Physiology?

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.

Pathology domains covered by the services of AEPs include cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological, musculoskeletal, cancers, kidney, respiratory / pulmonary and mental health, and any other conditions for which there is evidence that exercise can improve the client’s clinical status.

How Exercise Physiology can work for you?

Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists can develop a plan of care that is appropriate to your needs.  They will liaise with other members of your health care team including but not limited to Physiotherapist, GP, Nurse Practitioner, Dietitian to ensure that we are all working together achieve optimal results for your health care needs.

What to expect in your first consultation

Contact Your Health Hub to organise an initial assessment with the Exercise Physiologist. You may self refer or be referred by your GP under a chronic disease management plan (GPMP).

During the Initial Assessment a medical history will be taken, make sure you bring any relevant documentation about your treatment with you.  Physical testing such as a walk test and/or strength test will also be performed.

We will set some goals for you to achieve and an individualised exercise program will be developed based on your individual needs and medical conditions, leading you towards a more active lifestyle

Here at Your Health Hub we try to make our options affordable to those that really need it, with options ranging from single sessions, individual, partner & small group training all available.

See our Programs and Classes Page

Exercise physiology is not intended to be an ongoing form of treatment, but rather, it is designed to give you the skills to independently manage your health condition through an appropriate exercise regime.
